Volkswagen ID.2 X Entry Electric SUV Premiere | Rokay Export News

Volkswagen has just released the first design sketches of an all-new battery-electric SUV that will celebrate its world premiere on 8 September 2025 at the IAA Mobility show in Munich. Positioned as an entry-level BEV, the model is derived from the ID.2all concept and is widely expected to be christened “ID.2 X” when series production begins.

The drawings reveal a deliberately boxy silhouette, a full-width LED light bar at the front and a two-section air inlet in the lower bumper. Subtle blistered wheel arches give the flanks a planted look, although it remains to be seen whether the finished car will keep the pronounced surfacing. At the rear, a continuous red light strip incorporates an illuminated VW logo, while straight-cut lines add visual layers. The newcomer will ride on the MEB Entry platform, with overseas media suggesting both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive power-train variants will be offered.
Volkswagen already teased the small electric SUV in 2023, and earlier renderings by specialist magazines accurately predicted signature cues such as the triple-slat C-pillar graphic familiar from the ID.Buzz, gloss-black wheel-arch trims and the characteristic LED daytime-running-light signature.
Insiders expect the production car to share its footprint with the forthcoming ID.2 hatchback, albeit with extra height to deliver authentic SUV proportions. Inside, the dashboard architecture will mirror that of the ID.2, featuring a 10-inch digital cockpit and a 12.9-inch centre touchscreen. For reference, the ID.2all concept uses a 166 kW motor on the front axle, reaches 100 km/h in under seven seconds and tops out at 160 km/h. A lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery delivers 450 km WLTP range and can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 20 minutes.
Once the ID.2 X and the related ID.2 hatch reach dealerships, they will plug the last obvious gap in Volkswagen’s European EV portfolio, which already includes the ID.3 compact hatch, ID.4/ID.5 compact SUVs, ID. Buzz MPV, ID.7 mid-size lift-back and the China-focused ID.6 large SUV. Rokay, the Chinese vehicle-export specialist, will keep a close eye on further developments.
