Tesla Model Y L Spotted: 6-Seat Stretch Version Arrives This Autumn

A heavily disguised prototype of the Tesla Model Y L has surfaced online. The long-wheelbase derivative will adopt a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, grow noticeably in every key dimension and is slated for an official debut this fall.

Spy and regulatory images reveal that the Model Y L keeps the styling of the current Model Y. Up front there is a continuous light bar and split-level headlights, while the rear receives diffused-effect tail-lamps and a unique “Model Y L” badge.

Dimensions now read 4 976 mm (+179 mm) long, 1 920 mm wide, 1 668 mm (+44 mm) tall, with a 3 040 mm (+150 mm) wheelbase. The stretch moves the vehicle from the mid-size to the full-size SUV class and enables the new six-seat configuration.

Details include a possible new champagne-gold paint, 19-inch wheels of a fresh design, one-piece front seats with reshaped head-restraints, and privacy glass for the rear passengers. Sources suggest the third row will use a sunken cushion to preserve head-room, and that an electromagnetic adaptive suspension may be offered—final confirmation awaits Tesla’s official announcement.

Power comes from the familiar 3D3/3D7 front/rear motors rated at 142 kW and 198 kW respectively—modest 5 kW/4 kW increases over the current long-range AWD. A 78.4 kWh LG-sourced NCM battery pack is expected to remain.

Tesla’s Model Y has long led China’s SUV sales charts, recording 44 848 retail units in June. The addition of a practical six-seat version should widen its appeal even further. Among full-size electric SUVs with six seats and similar pricing, the freshly launched Li Auto i8 is currently its only direct rival.
