Jeep Recon is set to commence mass production on February 24, 2025. The current models being produced at its assembly plant include the Compass and Wagoneer S.
Previously, overseas media had revealed the Jeep Recon test vehicle, which is positioned as an electric, rugged off-road SUV. Some overseas outlets have even described it as the electric alternative to the Wrangler. Jeep has disclosed that the Recon is positioned as a global model and is expected to be introduced into the Chinese market alongside another electric SUV, the Wagoneer S.
Based on the previously exposed test vehicles, the Jeep Recon features a body design dominated by straight lines, adopting a "boxy" styling common to rugged off-road models. The front face retains the iconic seven-slot grille design, though it is sealed, and the electric blue tow hooks on the front bumper signify its identity as a new energy vehicle.
Additionally, the Recon is equipped with small front and rear bumpers, likely to improve approach and departure angles. The front and rear doors feature external hinges and retain a detachable design. Overseas media have also noted that the vehicle may offer a power-retractable roof, although unlike the current Wrangler, the Recon will not feature a removable roof structure.
According to reports from overseas, the Recon will be available in three trims: Willys, Overland, and Moab. The Willys is the entry-level model, while the Overland is positioned as the mid-tier variant, offering enhanced comfort and luxury features compared to the Willys. The Moab trim is the off-road version, featuring increased ground clearance, 17-inch wheels, Nexen Roadian ATX tires, and skid plates as standard equipment.
As of now, Jeep has not disclosed detailed specifications for the Recon. However, the brand has stated that the vehicle will meet the Jeep Trail Rated standards, equipped with a Selec-Terrain multi-terrain mode selection system, electronic locking differentials, underbody protection, tow hooks, and off-road tires.
Based on the latest reports from overseas media, the Recon is developed on the STLA Large platform, equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with a total motor output estimated at 450 to 600 horsepower. The STLA Large platform’s scalability supports various powertrains, including pure electric, internal combustion, and hybrid systems. Considering Jeep’s cautious approach to the electric rugged off-road market, the Recon may introduce a 1.6T hybrid model following its initial launch as a pure electric vehicle.
The Recon is one of two all-electric vehicles under Jeep’s new energy strategy, positioned as an electric, rugged off-road SUV. However, compared to the Wrangler’s more off-road-focused design, the Recon aims to balance everyday usability with off-road performance. Jeep’s other electric model, the Wagoneer S, launched a pre-production version in June 2024, priced in the U.S. at approximately the cost of two entry-level gasoline-powered Wranglers.
At the recently opened 2025 Brussels Motor Show, Jeep’s head of European operations stated to overseas media that the current Grand Cherokee and Wrangler might be replaced by the Wagoneer S and Recon, respectively. We will continue to monitor updates on Jeep’s latest developments.
